Whatever you are interested in, faithfully follow the spark of the moment

Ink, acrylic, crayon... Fumi, a general painting artist, continues to create works by making full use of various art materials. He also has a face as a picture book writer. If you think of depicting the world of mythology with linen ink on handmade washi paper, on the other hand, you will also work on digital works featuring cute characters. She is a rare artist who does not limit her style.

"Sometimes people say it's better to decide on one genre, but I can't do that. I want to do whatever interests me. Faithfully follow the flash of the moment, as you feel. My body is like a collection of my ancestors. I think that all the memories from time immemorial are contained in the DNA. I have that kind of feeling, so once my memory opens, I think I can draw anything."

Mr. Fuya draws anything and makes anything. His style is wide-ranging. However, when I look at many of these works, I notice that many of them are based on the theme of Japan mythology and waka contained in the Manyoshu. He is strongly attracted to shrines and rituals, and continues to research.

"I try to depict what I want to leave for the future and what will make future people happy. Hints for being happy, wisdom passed down from ancient times. Since ancient times, people have passed on to future generations by reciting things that should not be said in the atmosphere of the world in waka poetry or painting them as murals in caves. It is said that art has been like that since ancient times. For example, the painting of the hunt on the mural is not just a hunt. This is a picture in which the hunt is successful. Pray by drawing. It has been used as a prayer for life. Also, reciting waka is a "wish" in itself... In other words, it is both a "ritual" and a science of creation. There are people like Himiko in the Yayoi period who wish for the happiness and abundance of the people. That's what I want to do with art."

After natural disasters and suffering, my sensibilities opened up

He has been playing music since he was a child, so he was originally a sharp sensibility. When I was greatly shocked by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, my senses became hypersensitive, and my sensibilities were further polished, for better or worse. Fuya himself describes this as "opening up his sensibility."

"It's a panic disorder. I suffered from symptoms that made me unable to breathe and even felt that my life was in danger. But I really didn't want to use drugs for treatment. So I went to oriental Chinese medicine, chiropractic, and other invisible things. From the middle, strange things overlapped and I searched for it. Regardless of sect, I traced all kinds of gods, Buddhas, and ancestors. That's how I became familiar with shrines. The pursuit was not half-hearted. Because his life was at stake. What is the source of the birth of life in the first place? I am also curious about the roots of mankind. The history of the country... I began to research one after another. As the absorption rate of deep places increases, the fun of knowing the truth increases more and more. There is no end.
I had a relationship with the descendants of the land, and I went to meet people all over the country and pursued "puzzle matching". Some people become mentally ill due to panic disorder. But as far as I am concerned, my sensibilities have been sharpened and opened widely. I was able to meet many people and form relationships... There were more positive aspects."

Mr. Fuya is a very strong person. He faced his illness and explored it for about 30 years to understand its mechanism. As a result, I arrived at the fact that what is important to humanity and the earth is "unconditional love". And that became the theme of Fuya's art activities. A work called "Connecting Hearts" was also born. A heart tree grows from the earth, and the heart leaves are thick. I asked people I met on my travels or on the street to draw the heart leaves. It became one of Fuya's representative works.

Connecting the past and the future, tradition and contemporary art

"If you ask me what I am working for, one is to leave the wisdom of the earth in the future, and the other is to awaken to remember my original self. When the two are integrated, I wonder if the world and each person's mind can be kept in harmony... I think."

Mr. Fuya is "traditional" and "improvisation"... If I were to compare it to jazz, I value both "standard" and "improvisation". It is said that through the progress of ancient times to the present and the future, it is said that connecting seemingly contradictory things leads to peace. Although we are in an era where diversity is required, all troubles are based on not accepting each other as they are. Approval and acceptance are slightly different. Fuya feels that he has a role to play in expressing and conveying them, so he continues to work as an artist as his mission.

"I used to be involved in environmental and peace activities, so I became particular about natural things. By creating works, we can preserve those ancient things and disseminate them."

In December of this year (2022), Fuya held a VR solo exhibition "Puzzle Matching - Past and Future" at Japan Bridge ART. -". In order to create his work, he stays at Art in Residence for a while and concentrates on his creative activities. The Art in Residence provided to Mr. Fuya is Manpukuji Temple in Kyoto. It is a temple with a history that was opened in the Edo period.

"Until now, I used to run around on my own to improve the environment, but the temple has everything and people are coming to the temple. I can devote 100% of my energy to art activities. If you obediently let yourself go with your flow, the time will come when it will match. I think the puzzle pieces are prepared on the path you have walked."

Bumi Web Solo Exhibition Puzzle Matching Past and future. In the meantime.

The works in this solo exhibition are filled with nostalgic memories.
It may have been a recent event, a very ancient event when I was young, maybe even before I was born. I believe that it is no exaggeration to say that our mind and body are born from the stars and are made from "the collection of what our ancestors experienced".

This time, we have drawn all kinds of raw materials and art materials that have continued to change over a long history. I hope that you will feel the new possibilities, a new future, and the moment of "now" that leads to them, just like the stars that have been repeatedly regenerated by supernova explosions. Please enjoy.
