Joy, nostalgia, mystery... Goto Matabei, a painter who depicts various emotions and events born from people's daily activities with impressive touches and compositions. Born in 1925 in Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture, he had a strong connection with a mysterious person, and his works were included in the collections of famous musicians and Hollywood actors through exhibitions not only in Japan but also in the United States, San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles, which can be said to be the center of art.
In June 1969, the opening commemorative exhibition of Yamaki Art was this Goto Matabei exhibition.
This rare encounter with a painter was the starting point of our gallery.
More than half a century has passed since then, and I have once again found the splendor of Matabei's works, the expression of human nature to the point of simplicity, and the emotion of universal beauty.
This exhibition features about 20 works from the gallery collection.
We would like to take this opportunity to take a look.
Since its founding in 1969, it has actively exhibited at overseas art fairs such as Basel, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Melbourne, focusing on introducing Japan artists overseas, while holding exhibitions of Western and Asian artists, mainly artists from the Kansai region, in order to promote cultural exchange. The Antiques section also offers a wide range of glasswork, ceramics, jewelry, and other gems from the 19th and mid-20th centuries.
