Kyoto Seika University, founded with the founding spirit of 'Respect for Human Beings' and 'Freedom and Autonomy,' continues to walk as a pioneer in manga art and design education. On the lush campus of the ancient capital Kyoto, diverse fields of expression such as manga, contemporary art, design, and popular culture coexist, creating creative dialogues that transcend genres every day. Behind the continuous production of artists who do not fit into the existing market, such as Katsuki Tanaka, the creator of "Koppu no Fuchiko," is a unique educational environment that respects student freedom and autonomy. At the beginning of this feature, we feature a special interview with Katsuki Tanaka, who studied at the school and continues to explore the possibilities of manga expression. We will unravel the "essence of expression," which has been questioned across generations, from the perspective of Kyoto Seika University.
