Ryouna Goshima
Reina Goshima, a young painter enrolled in the Department of Japan Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. His works are characterized by a "purity" that is rare in the modern Japan art world. By the time he graduated from high school, Goshima had mastered multiple specialized techniques such as drawing, watercolor, and oil painting, and he felt that "the pictures drawn by children are the 'original form of painting'", and he continues to paint with the pure feelings of a child at the center of his creative activities. The motif of the "dragon" that he has loved since childhood, and the pursuit of intuitive expression beyond calculation without drowning in technique can be said to be an attempt to evoke the fundamental power that contemporary art tends to lose. Of particular note is the unique charm of the dragon depicted by Goshima. The techniques of traditional Japan painting, modern familiarity, and a sense of dynamism that seems to jump out of the painting coexist wonderfully. This expression is probably the core of his work that never ceases to attract viewers. At the "Reina Goshima's Dragon Exhibition" held in April 2025, the exhibited works were sold out in four days. This fact speaks to the high appreciation for his work and his exceptional talent. He has been drawing steadily from his childhood to the present, and he still says, "Drawing is the most fun!" I continue to be fascinated by the world of painting. Although she is still in university, Reina Goshima is opening up new possibilities for Japan painting with her solid technology and unique worldview. His challenge, which combines tradition and innovation with purity as a weapon, is sure to attract more and more attention in the future as it illuminates the future of Japan painting.
