"Yuki" is a series of woodblock prints by Berlin-based artist Maki and Tokyo-based printmaker Yuko. The project is a collaborative work of a long distance and time, with Maki painting portraits of friends he met in Germany and around the world, sending them to Yuko in Tokyo to be finished as woodblock prints.
As we continued to create, the project became a symbol of the deep bond between Maki and Yuko, as well as their friends and family. Based on the characteristics and backgrounds of the characters drawn by Maki, Yuko creates an image of that person, creating a strange feeling as if he has indirectly befriended them in a distant land. Through this, we are reminded of the individuality of each person and the importance of existence.
This project is not only a woodblock print, but also a bridge connecting people from different cultures, generations, and backgrounds. I would be happy if I could once again convey the significance of the "Yuki" woodblock print series to many people.
