Born in Sapporo in 1941. Studied under Kano Mori. Morita Koryu met Yuichi Inoue and participated in the Injin Association. In 1966, he won the Sumijin Award and became a member of the Sumijin Association. Won the Runner-up Grand Prize at the Japan Contemporary Book Exhibition. Lecturer of the correspondence high school course "Ikkyu" on national television. He has appeared in many calligraphy lectures and talk shows. In addition, there are research presentations such as "The Book of the Gods" and "Listening to the Words of Calligraphers", which examine the history of calligraphy from a unique perspective. His calligraphy field is wide-ranging, including advertising letters for Nescafe Gold Blend, as well as many collaborations and calligraphy performances with artists such as Kansai Yamamoto and Ryudo Uzaki. Held many solo exhibitions. His works are also in the collections of the Finnish Embassy and the Kanda Nisakatsu Memorial Museum of Art. In 2024, he received the Hokkaido Culture Award. In 2025, he was selected as a person of regional cultural merit by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
