INTERVIEWInterview

YOKO NAKAMURA

Please briefly introduce yourself.

I was born in Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The concept of the work is "happiness of the heart", which is expressed in light and darkness.
After dropping out of the art department of a junior college, I became an apprentice to Mr. Kakuya Oishi in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, and became a professor for three years, and began exhibiting at the Ichiyokai. During that time, I continue to get sick and become close to sleeping. Since then, he has been self-taught and has been working on his own to the present.

At the 38th Nishinomiya City Exhibition, he was the youngest person at the time to win the grand prize.
It was a double screening, and I was selected by the late critics Yuaki Inui and Hiroshi Masuda in the final screening, and I was able to stand as a starting point as a painter. After that, he won the Newcomer Award and Encouragement Award at the Kansai Ichiyo Exhibition, the Special Prize at the Ichiyo Exhibition, and was selected for the Grand Prize Exhibition of the Museum of Art in Ueno and the Hyogo Prefectural Exhibition.
From 1990 to 2010, he belonged as a member of the Ichiyokai for 20 years, and withdrew in 2010. He is currently an independent.

Since 2010, he has exhibited mainly at overseas art fairs. After leaving the Ichiyokai, I have been drawing with original stories of pictures and poems as "The World of Aria".
In 2003, he also published a collection of poems and paintings, "Jutsu", which will serve as an opportunity to create the world of Aria.
I mainly paint small and medium-sized works on canvas. It is mainly painted in gold and painted in a fantastic style like a fairy tale world.

I am currently writing the story of Aria. Aria's story is about light.
Suncatcher appears as a keyword in the story.
Since 2013, in parallel with the production of paintings, I have also been creating original suncatchers as an Arian workshop.
A suncatcher is a room accessory that brings in a lot of sunlight like a small rainbow. It is said to bring rainbows and happiness. Because it is a difficult world to live in today, I started it because I wanted people to actually feel the happiness of their hearts. It is connected to the story of Aria's world. Currently, I am working in the direction of painting, story, and suncatcher creation.

I still suffer from PTSD and tend to fall asleep, and I can't go far by crowded places or by train, and I suddenly get anxious and collapse, so I often don't want to be active or living.
I would like to continue to work positively at my own pace.

What made you decide to become a painter?

I was born as the eldest daughter in a family of four.
My father was often transferred because of his work at the company. I love painting, and no matter where I live, I have occasionally attended a painting class near me since I was 6 years old. I never received any compliments from my parents or anyone. Even at school, there were a few good kids in the class, and I was about 6th or 7th.

When I was in the 6th grade of elementary school, I collapsed from pleurisy and fell ill after that, and I suffered from anorexia in junior high and high school, and I could hardly go to school. I was hurt and hurt thinking that there was no place for me at home or at school, and it was a dark girlhood. During the summer vacation of my first year of high school, I decided to die and decided to leave the last picture with a peaceful feeling.

When I went to a painting class with a draft of a motif that reflected my heart that I had seen in a dream, an encounter with a teacher led me to the world of painting.
When the teacher looked at the painting, he sensed my feeling of being cornered, saying, "You are drawing a picture that is difficult even though you are young."
The teacher's words made me feel like the weight in my heart had become lighter, and when I applied for the Nara Junior City Exhibition with that momentum, my work was evaluated and I was selected.

I created a picture book in that classroom.
And when the teacher was leaving, he called me to his side and said, "I can see a shining light inside you, I may forget what I said, but remember it." I was skeptical that there was light in me, but I decided to believe what the teacher said and try to live again. And I think that I created another picture book with the next teacher and nurtured my mind.

I think that meeting those two teachers gave me the strength to live.
At that time, I decided that I would definitely create a real story someday. I really wanted to impress people with my paintings
That was the beginning of my desire to become a painter. This is the origin of my desire to depict the light of the world of Aria.

Please tell us about the arias in the work.

The story of how Aria was born is that one day, in a dream, I met me, a girl in my heart. When she woke up, the girl's name was in her mind, Aria.
"Aria" The girl is the main character of the world of the mind that is in everyone's heart.
In the world of music, arias are often used as expressions of love with lyrically projected images. I think the arias I created also have such a meaning.

I draw with the theme of light, with the wish for inner happiness, the importance of life, and peace.
I am currently taking on the challenge of expressing the world view of such paintings as poetry and stories. I'm currently working on the story of Aria's world.

"Door of Life, Love, Aria, Secret Spell F10" Written by: YOKO NAKAMURA

Are there any exhibitions or events that have left an impression on you?

At the 38th Nishinomiya City Exhibition, I was able to win the grand prize.
At that time, I was suffering from a worsening illness. It became difficult for me to create, and I was almost asleep, and I was about to lose hope of living as a painter, but I didn't let go of my paintbrush.

At that time, the Nishinomiya City Exhibition was famous for its high level and was said to be difficult to be selected.
At that time, a work called "Conversation Technique" that I had drawn with desperate thoughts suddenly won the grand prize. In the double screening, I was selected for the painting category of the painter examination, and remained in the final judging by three critics in all categories. It seems that Mr. Yuaki Inui and Mr. Hiroshi Masuda pulled up and the top prize was decided. Although I was featured in multiple media outlets and was unable to appear in public, I mustered up the courage to attend the award ceremony. From the story of Mr. Hiroshi Masuda, I learned that he saw the future even though it was still rough. And I was recognized as a painter by Mr. Kakuya Oishi, and I was able to start as a painter.

As I was about to lose hope of living, a ray of hope inspired me.
I have never met Hiroshi Masuda since then, but I can only thank him for connecting with me through letters until he passed away.
I was hardly praised or recognized by my parents or anyone, but it was the first time I was able to recognize my potential.

In 2011, I was selected as one of the best 50 people from many entries for my work "Jutsu: The Magic Mirror of Life: Who Are You?" at the 1st International Peace Art Competition (N.Y.) U.S.A. I think this work is an evolved work of the "conversation technique" of the Nishinomiya City Exhibition. There was a language barrier to apply alone, and it was extremely difficult for me.
If it weren't for the challenge of these two exhibitions, I wouldn't be where I am today. It was an event that left an impression on me.

"Technique, the magic mirror of life, who are you? Written by: YOKO NAKAMURA

What do you value in your creative endeavors?

As a basic thing, I have valued courtesy as a person and how to use words. Also, I was very bad at drawing pictures that felt light. So, I looked at a few photos, patterns, and illustrations for a few seconds, used only beautiful bright colors, and practiced one picture a day with my own sensibility in my free hand. By continuing every day, I think I gradually learned the expression of light. In the process of such self-study, I have consciously avoided looking at other people's works to protect my originality. I value not being affected. Cherish your own worldview and draw with an unwavering attitude. That is the axis of my work. In addition, my style is to draw on a gold background, and I am working hard every day to aim for a style that is not bound by categorization, such as Eastern, Western, and Japanese paintings.

Currently, I take photos myself and try to consider them from multiple perspectives. By looking at a single subject from various angles, you can see new discoveries and hints of expression. However, because of my weak body, I can't easily go to the exhibitions I am exhibiting in, so I think it's a pity that I can't directly feel the reaction of people who come to see how my work is actually exhibited.

「Black Cat Aria 天眼術 SMホール」 Yoko Nakamura

What kind of challenges do you want to take on in the future?

I think that until now, many people have accepted me as a writer who expresses myself in a dark and negative way, but I want to grow into a media mix-like creator who can be accepted brightly and positively.

Finally, a PV inspired by Aria's story andWebsiteI would like to introduce you.

The world of Aria, which has been spun by continuing to draw light, is also a story that resonates deeply with her own inner self. The challenge of delivering happiness to the heart through a variety of expressions such as paintings, poems, and suncatchers will continue in the future. The attitude of creating at his own pace while facing his own senses gives his work a certain power.Expectations are high for further developments in the future.

⭐️ The concept of my work is "happiness of the heart".
With the theme of light, it depicts the world of light and darkness, while depicting "living", love, connection, and belief.

★ Technique, the magic mirror of life, who are you? It expresses the anxiety of a mysterious living person in the magic mirror (in his heart), smoking a cigarette, blowing on it, laying more and more eggs, and strange things multiplying. Among them is a flower of life.

★ The sprout of light It expresses the vitality, the power to live, and the beauty of the life of a single flower trying to shine. In bright colors, I valued a sense of vitality and energy in addition to the feeling of energy.

YOKO NAKAMURA "Aria Spirit Tree Wings The Cry of the Wings I depict the happiness of the heart, the importance of life, and the wish for peace with the theme of light. The world I draw is the world of the mind. I draw it as "the world of Aria". "Aria" The girl is the main character of the world of the mind that exists in everyone's heart.

I depict the precious invisible world: time, life, anxiety, prayer, healing, and joy. It is mainly painted in gold and in a fantastic painting style like the world of a fairy tale. I am currently taking on the challenge of expressing the worldview of such paintings as poetry and stories. I'm currently working on a story about Aria's world.
This work depicted the world of light and darkness in the heart. On the left and right, the wings of good and the wings of evil, what is good and what is evil, the cry of the soul, the cry of the wings, and the sensibility of the viewer. Easy to operate on PC or smartphone, free of charge during the exhibition, you can watch it as many times as you like. Please experience art appreciation in a new era.

Mystery II.

The title of this exhibition, "Mystere," means mystery and mystery in French. Artists express their mysterious worlds in a flat or three-dimensional way, creating something out of nothing. The process is truly sacred, and we, who appreciate the work, are also caught up in the feeling of being lost in an extraordinary story when we confront the sacred and mysterious work. In this exhibition, we will welcome talented creators selected by our gallery and introduce their mysterious and fantastic works in their own worlds. We hope that you will feel the "Mystere" that each work enchants and immerse yourself in the unreal world floating on the white cube. If you would like to purchase a work, please contact us below. Also, if you want to see the work in person, you can also see it in the gallery depending on the work. Please contact us in advance if you wish.
