It is a fantastic work that is colorful, lively, and has a slightly Japanese feel.
I would like to enjoy drawing works that will energize the viewer even a little.
WORKS Works
INTERVIEWInterview
Chifumi
Please briefly introduce yourself.
I'm chifumi from Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. My work is fantastical with Japanese elements and Japan mythology. While weaving traditional Japan motifs with a modern sense, I try to create works that invite the viewer into the story. I started my career as an artist in 2022, when I held my first group exhibition. Since then, I have gradually expanded the range of my activities, such as participating in various group exhibitions and holding web solo exhibitions at Japan Bridge Art.

What made you start working as a painter?
The reason was that my friends invited me to hold a group exhibition. Until then, I had always drawn as a hobby, but it would be a waste if my friend didn't show it to someone! He encouraged me and gave me a push. Those words touched my heart very much. And I mustered up the courage to participate.
I was hesitant and anxious, but I had the courage to decide to participate, and I felt that the world expanded at once. Through the exhibition, I was able to realize for the first time the joy of the moment my work is seen by someone and the joy of being seen by others. The smiles, surprised expressions, and impressions of my friends who came to see me were a great encouragement to me.
Once you start moving, you gain momentum, and through my experience in group exhibitions, I was able to realize the joy of presenting my work and the joy of being seen by others, and after that, I started working alone. If it weren't for a word from my friends, I might still be drawing as a hobby. I think it was a really important encounter and timing.
What kind of thoughts do you put into your work?
The most important thing for me is to try not to make negative emotions feel as much as possible. The moment you see the painting, you will feel that the space has suddenly brightened, and that you will be able to convey a positive and warm feeling.
When looking at the work in a daze, a story like Mikakusako comes to mind in the viewer's mind, and I aim to create a work that allows me to get away from everyday life even for a moment.

Please tell us if there is a work that you think is the most "like me!"
I feel that the work "Seven Lucky Gods" is the most personal to me so far. This work has the liveliness of the entire screen, Japanese-style motifs, and gods wearing masks. The reason why I feel that the fun atmosphere created by the whole thing was that I was able to brighten up the screen with my own free expression. Even during production, the fact that I can enjoy the work that I am drawing with excitement makes this work special.

Are there any exhibitions or events that have left an impression on you?
This was my first group exhibition, which was an impressive event. It was truly an adult cultural festival, and we started with three friends having fun. However, since it was the first time for all of us to hold an exhibition, everything from choosing a venue to how to promote it and even creating novelties for visitors was in a state of fumbling with our hands. The process of repeatedly discussing and giving shape to each one through trial and error was not easy, but I think it was a very valuable and learning experience, including that time.
Of course, I was happy that it was featured in the local newspaper on the day of the event, but what left a lasting impression on me was the reaction of my old friends who came to visit. They were happy that I continued to draw, and they approached me, and those words really motivated me to create.

Until then, I didn't have the courage to hold a solo exhibition by myself. That's why the invitation of friends was just a lucky event. This experience led me to gradually expand my activities, such as taking on the challenge of group exhibitions overseas and holding a web solo exhibition at Japan Bridge Art. Looking back, there were many points to reflect on, but it was a special exhibition for me, which left me with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude that I was glad I took on the challenge and that I was glad I took the step at that time.
Can you tell us your thoughts on future work?
In the future, I would like to think more deeply about what works are meaningful because I draw. Establishing individuality, anyone can see it is my work! I would like to pursue the creation of a screen that can be understood. And the most important thing is to have fun. Because it is a work that I enjoy drawing, I believe that the fun and excitement will naturally be conveyed to the viewer.
I also want to challenge myself to work in a variety of sizes and formats, from small works that are light and easy to pick up, to large works. I plan to expand the range of my work so that more people can feel close to my work. Since my popularity is still close to zero, I would like to expand my activities first and have various people see my work.
Chifumi pursues the establishment of a personality full of "self-style" and the joy of drawing itself. The work, which combines Japanese fantasy with modern sensibilities, brightens the viewer's heart and invites them to a story that is far from the ordinary. His activities are light on his feet and continue to challenge various works, large and small, and will deliver his warm worldview to more people. Expectations are rising more and more for his future activities.

9/16~9/30 chifumi Web Solo Exhibition We will hold Japan's gods and beasts.
When it comes to gods in Japan, there are many and varied gods, as the word "eight million gods" suggests, some are famous, some are gods of toilets, rice, and stove gates, some are gods of haunting, and some are gods of good fortune. Anyway, it is everywhere, and it is born from anything organic, inorganic, or anything. They look like people, sharks, and ships.
Every time I heard such a story, I was very excited and imagined what it would look like.
This time, I drew such Japan gods and divine beasts. It is a very attractive motif that many artists have challenged. There are as many different appearances as there are artists.
It was born from my hand in this form.
We hope that many people will see and love it, and that it will make you feel cheerful, lively, and happy.
