INTERVIEWInterview

Dakuro

Make the odd species your own.

"Although junior high and high school were regular subjects, I think I liked art classes and put a lot of effort into them. I've done a lot of things since I was a child, but somehow none of them worked, and I thought, "I want to draw a picture, isn't it fun?" I started with that in mind. My major at university is spatial communication. It was a night school, and the class hours were from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There were classmates of the same age, including working adults, and people who were more than two years older, and it was an exciting environment with a wide range of students. Space communication is a type of art that creates space, and the image may be close to interior coordination. Currently, my main style is to paint on flat canvases, but I always have the desire to create three-dimensional objects."

The original style seems to be a brilliant use of space. Is the approach to space communication during my student days also related? Don't be bound by common sense. He is also good at using unusual canvases to create works.

"I mainly use acrylic paint to paint on panels and canvases, and I first come up with something I want to paint." But I'm bored with just a square canvas, and above all, it's commonplace." "Other people also draw a lot of art on square canvases, right?" I was looking for a variety of things, and I thought, "This is it! I found a deformed canvas. There are various things that have strange shapes, such as round and heart-shaped. "This looks interesting. That's why I started using modified ready-made canvases."

What are your thoughts and intentions for the work?

"First, I make a sketch and think about what it looks like, and then I think to some extent whether this color is good for the parts here. I actually try to show the color of the paint, and although it is not a tasting, I match the colors while looking at the condition, and then I add color based on the feeling. There are some parts where I don't want to give up here, and in such cases, it is important to draw as my feelings go."

Regarding the use of clear and highly saturated colors, which is one of the characteristics, Mr. Dakuro said: It is said that it is a style in which the motif is prepared in front of the eyes mainly in still life paintings, and then begins to take shape and draw. Therefore, it is essential to add your own arrangement of plus alpha. He said that his work is "modern, modern, and pop". Among them, I was able to hear about the thoughts and backgrounds of the two works.

"The work depicting the ice cream-shaped motif of 'I screme' was created with a pun on the sound of 'ice cream'. At first glance, I thought it was just ordinary ice cream, but there was a lip there and an eyeball inside. I made it with a playful sense that the viewer would be a little scared. "End and Beginning" is a photo of cherry blossom petals, bags, school uniforms, and school buildings. For me, March is a special time in Japan when things are coming to an end. I created it in the context of keeping it in my heart as a memory of what I used when I was a student. I think of my heart as an album. I used a heart-shaped canvas. This is a work that was actually painted around March and was exhibited in a group exhibition with the concept of March.

My own style of painting that only I can do

"A good friend once told me, 'To be honest, it would be difficult for Dakuro's drawings to be accepted by the public,' and at that time, I easily admitted to myself, saying, 'Well, that's right.' There were countless other dissing opinions, and each time I admitted it, I was depressed. Contemporary, modern and pop. His cartoonish style reflects what he likes. I like manga and anime, and I will incorporate them when I am inspired. I think that I am not suitable for delicate paintings... To put it bluntly, I may not have the drawing ability to make a big buzz now."

For that reason, Mr. Kuro wants to pursue the creation of original works that value his own taste. He said that there is something different about it from drawing delicate, skillful, and beautiful paintings, and expressed his passion for conveying the strength and splendor of having originality through his own style.

Of course, there are many people who become famous for their delicate, photo-like paintings and beautiful paintings, and I think there are many people who want to become such artists. Some people may lose confidence when they see good people and think, "I'm no good." I respect the drawings of people I think are good, and sometimes I get jealous and lose a little confidence. But strangely, anyone can do it if they try to draw a good picture. If I keep up with the amount, of course I'll be good too. But I want to prove through myself that I have my own style of painting that only I can draw."

I have been drawing works since I was in elementary school. In junior high school and high school, I used wood to make works. At university, I majored in design and has produced and presented various works. After graduating, I made things I wanted to draw and make in my own way. When you look at the worldview you feel and the things you imagine and draw, I would like to draw a work that makes people think, "It's like Mr. Dakuro."fantia[Biography] In 1993 ・Born in Tokyo In 2012 ・Enrolled in the Department of Design, Faculty of Art and Expression, Tama Art University In 2016 ・Graduated from the Department of Design, Faculty of Art and Expression, Tama Art University 【Solo Exhibition】 In 2018 ・Cafe & Gallery Patina "First Story" In 2020 ・Cafe & Gallery Patina "My home" In 2022 ・History Museum [Group Exhibition] In 2015 ・Tama Art University Faculty of Art and Expression Art Festival "nijijiji" In 2016 ・The 24th Tama Art University Uenoge Design Exhibition In 2019 ・Cafe & Gallery Patina Best Selection "One Box Exhibition"
